Project Background & Engineering Challenges

Wuhan Central Hospital experienced noise migration from its central energy plant room, where centrifugal chillers and heavy blowers ran continuously. The noise propagated through airborne paths and building structures into nearby administrative offices and inpatient wards.

Challenges included tight spatial footprint constraints in the plant room and executing structural retrofits without shutting down essential 24/7 hospital utility systems.

Engineering Noise Control Solution

● Plant Room Envelope Retrofit: Lined internal walls and ceilings with high-performance perforated acoustic absorption panels; replaced standard entryways with heavy-duty STC-rated acoustic doors and double-glazed windows.

● Source Equipment Enclosures: Fitted compact, tailor-made acoustic shrouds and intake/exhaust mufflers directly onto chillers and fans.

● Structure-Borne Decoupling: Placed all rotating equipment on inertia bases with spring vibration isolators to eliminate low-frequency structural hums.
